Description : Buchu oil is extracted from Agothosma betulina (also known as Barosma betulina) of the Rutaceae family. The buchu can be the Agathosma betulina as only a betulina is now recognized in the BP as having medicinal value due to the diosphenol (camphor) components. It is also known as mountain buchu, bookoo, buku and bucco. Common Names : round leaf buchu, similar plant Agathosma crenulata (previously Barosma crenulata) is known as the oval leaf buchu.

Constituents : Buchu leaves contain diosmin and hesperidin. Buchu also contains pulegone, which is hepatotoxic.
